As a parent I know that we all look for treatments to help our children with whatever condition they are facing. This story illustrates how careful we must be in investigating any treatment that is suggested for our child.
Because some people believe that there is a link between mercury and autism, there are those who believe chelation therapy, which latches onto heavy metals and leaves the body through urine, can help autistic children. However, “the FDA had only approved the treatment for acute heavy-metal poisoning confirmed by blood tests.”
